There was a bomb scare in 2013 and the school and police handled it very well. As far as security events, stuff happens every now and then, but never anything major. I also would love to add that the majority of people who complain of a toxic culture of rich white kids are, ironically, rich white kids. You are unlikely to have any problems as a minority at HP. Also, racist stuff can happen everywhere, and Highland Park is no exception, but racist attacks are absolutely unheard of at HP. Nobody is getting beat up for dressing different you just have never been to a bad high school. You need to take a look at the fact that there has never been a genuine attack or fight at HP. Getting teased a few times is just a part of being in high school. For those who complain of the culture, please think about the real reason you don't fit in. You will not spontaneously combust if you take a regular class, so please stop scaring people away from Highland Park because you signed up for more than you can handle. If you choose a mediocre private school, or even a private school with a great reputation, you are sacrificing a free education that comes with a normal and safe high school experience.For those who complain of stress, I ask you to deal with the products of your own choices silently. Highland Park has the best test scores, graduation rates, and matriculation names in Dallas, and completely for free. Choosing a high school is a black-and-white decision. You are stupid if you have the opportunity to go to Highland Park and you either do not take it, or take it for granted.
